Friday is the rarest specimen of African American cinema: a 'hood movie refreshingly free of the semiseriousness and moralism of shoot 'em up soaps such as Boyz N the Hood, yet still true to the inner-city experience. Scripted by rapper Ice Cube, Friday is a no-frills tale of a typical day in the life of a pair of African American youth in South Central. Cube plays Craig, a frustrated teen who endures the ultimate humiliation: getting fired on his day off. Then unknown Chris Tucker plays Smokey, a marijuana-worshipping homeboy whose love for the green stuff lands him in predicament after predicament. Sitting on the stoop of Craig's rundown home, the two hilariously confront a kaleidoscopic array of gangbangers, weed dealers, crack heads, prostitutes, scheming girlfriends, and neighborhood bullies--all of whom, it should be noted, come off as sympathetic even as they are being caricatured, a true achievement in the crass, "booty call" environment of '90s African American comedy. --Ethan Brown

smokey 5 by .. J. Irps (sparta)
this movie had what the sequels missed out on, smokey. he pretty much made the first movie. such memorable lines in this movie at such quantities, it's hard not to like it. "how do you get fired on your day off?" "what you stealin boxes for, you tryin to build a clubhouse?" i have seen this movie at least 100 times and still never grow tired of it. whenever i can't think of anything else to watch, friday creeps up and inserts itself into the dvd player. great great movie.

of course deebo was a great villian. there is allways that big @ss thug that wants to prove that noone can step up to him. what a better person to play that role then tom 'tiny' lister jr. maybe that guy from the green mile. chris tucker was absolutely amazing as a pothead. i don't think anyone could have pulled that role off better then him. ice cube did a great job as craig and i don't know who played as mrs. parker, but she did a good job too. then you have the corrupt preacher played by bernie mac. hillarious movie from beginning to end especially when they did the flashback scenes with smokey taking a hit of angel dust and finding himself in deebos chicken coop.

this movie had one of the best soundtracks ever put together. everything from ice cube and cypress hill to rick james and 2 live crew. best placement in the movie for the soundtrack had to be when craigs girlfriend got out of the car all pissed off and hoochie mamma was playing in the background. the best hood classic ever.

Chris Tucker stole the show 5 by .. Donna Di Giacomo (Philadelphia, PA)
This is THE funniest comedy I have ever seen. I agree with another reviewer: I can watch this movie a million times and never tire of it. It gets funnier and funnier each time.

Tucker stole the show as Smokey, who sells pot but who also smokes it and it's that love that causes him trouble in the middle of the film. But it's his lines and his mannerisms as Smokey that make him hilarious.

One of my favorite parts is where Rita pulls up to meet Smokey for a blind date. Rita, who said she looked like Janet Jackson but weighed a good 250 pounds says lustfully, "Ooo, what's up?" The expression on Tucker's face made me cry, I was laughing so hard: It immediately dropped as he gets an eyeful of her and says, "Not a damn thing!"

The movie is chock full of goodies. The delivery of the script is what makes this movie and everyone was cast perfectly for their parts.

Sequels were unnecessary because this stands out by itself.

Hilarious! 5 by .. Joseph S. Kennedy (who wants to know?)
This ISN'T Joseph. I am his oldest daughter.

I love this movie and in my opinion, this is the best Friday movie EVER. The other ones were okay.

Basically, this movie shows a typical friday in the "hood" for Craig (Ice Cube) and Smokey (Chris Tucker). In this movie, they have to deal with the neighborhood bully "Debo" who jacks people for their money and "ice".

My favorite part of the movie is when drug dealer "Big Worm" sends people to do a "Drive By" in Craig's neighborhood because Smokey was too busy smoking up the weed instead of selling it (which he shouldn't do anyway)! It's hilarious because Smokey screams like a girl the whole time!

As it's been said before, the sequels are missing "smokey" the lovable Chris Tucker who will have you sprawled out on the floor laughing! However, Mike Epps does a good job of keeping the jokes coming in the sequels.

People, get this movie, it will have you saying, "Thank God it's Friday".

Best of Three 5 by .. Don Killuminati (New Albany, IN, USA)
If you want to laugh your ass off buy this movie. It stars Ice Cube as Greg, and Chris Tucker as Smokey. Chris Tucker makes this movie good with his winny girly voice and always smokin weed. Ice cube delivers a good performance as Greg the guy who gets fired on his day off for stealing boxes and gets high for the first time. There are other great charecters like Debo the tall bully of the hood, Disel the crack head who will doing anything for two dollars, and daddy Gregs bog catching father who has to use the bathroom constantly. Over all this movie is hilarious just like the second and third one.

What Up Big Perm....I Mean Big Worm!! 5 by .. R. Vos ()
This is my favorite movie of all time. I personally think this is Chris Tucker's best performance and Ice Cube's too for the little acting career he has. This movie is down right outrageous from beginning to end. My favorite part has to be when Craig and Smokey go into the house to get some Kool-Aid and Craig says We don't have any sugar and Smokey goes Daaaamn!! You never have two things that match....you got peanut butter... no jelly, kool-aid... no sugar, ham..no burger. Everyone should go pick this up...its gaurenteed laughs.
